Gravity Ranch Designs ~ Meet the Designer, Ellen Bartfeld

Ellen Bartfeld of Gravity Ranch Designs makes exquiste glass bowls embellished with beads or vintage "jewels".  They are pefect for rings, keys, cufflinks, soap or just sitting on a table!

This is Ellen's story:

Stained glass has been part of my work as an artist for over 35 years.  I love the way the glass reflects natural light and compliments interior surfaces.  My glass bowls are one of a kind pieces hand crafted to reflect the natural beauty surrounding Gravity Ranch, the home my husband and I built in the remote hills of Santa Ynez.

Working alone, I creat my Gravity Glass bowls by slumping the glass into various shapes iin the kiln, edging them with copper foil and lead-free solder and embellishing them with decorative items.  I also fire images into some of the bowls, using gold or platinum luster.  I enhance the natural essence of my creations with charms and images from nature ( leaves and flowers), the animal world (dragonflies, hummingbirds, goldfish, turtles) and Asian design (Chinese letters, Buddha).

Beads of infinite variety adorn my bowls either alone or in combinations with charms and images.  In recent years, I discovered a beautiful "jewel on glass" effect by decorating my bowls with vintage jewelry...each piece unique in color, shape and design.  I also make bowls to a customer's specifications.

It is difficult to capture the beauty of these bowls in a photograph, particularly online.  But, they have been a hit at Tournesol, particularly for gifts.  They are functional, beautiful and they sparkle!  They arrive in a gift box which includes a card about Ellen and her story....all the makings of a perfect gift!
