Choosing a Tablecloth for Your Round Table

Historically, the round table is associated with King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.  The table was apparently designed to prevent arguments regarding the seating arrangements.  A round table suggests equal status amongst the guests ~ avoiding disputes, particularly important when the Knights bear swords!

Today, the round table is a lovely setting for entertaining. Conversation flows easily and everyone can be  included. Finding the perfect tablecloth, however, can be challenging.

Although round tablecloths are more limited in available styles and sizes, if you are open to using a square tablecloth on your round table, your choices are greatly expanded.  A typical round table is somewhere near 50" in diameter.  These tables seat 4-6 people comfortably. Larger tables of 60" diameter can set 8 easily and are becoming more popular.  Round tables 72" in diameter are uncommon, but not unheard of.  A 69"-71" square tablecloth will work well for a 50" table. Square tablecloths of 86" would well for 60" diameter tables. For 72" table, try a 91" square.

If you are looking for a tablecloth for your round table, you may find my article interesting, Dressing Your Round Table. To make your search easier, we have added a section specifically for Round Tablecloths.  If your table is 60" - 72" in diameter, you can also search under Extra-Wide Standard Tablecloths.  Le Jacquard Francais and Garnier Thiebaut both offer wide standard square tablecloths and rounds. Garnier Thiebaut and Settings by Mona will also create a custom round tablecloth for you. Le Jacquard Francais will make a custom round tablecloth in the lovely Tivoli pattern, one of my favorites.  You can explore these options in our Custom Tablecloths Section.
