Custom Tablelcloth Magic
My husband is a lawyer. Each year we host a holiday party for his office, always at a restaurant...until this year. In early December, Tom suggested having the party at our home. This sounded like a great idea to me, we have a new home with lots of room...but then I realized we would be having 14 people for a sit down dinner. Our dining room table can seat 14 ...but they are usually family members who don't mind the being a bit "squeezed" together. What to do?
First, I called the caterer. Then, I began thinking about how I would comfortably seating 14 at my table. I thought about adding a smaller table in an adjoining room - but I didn't want to separate our group. I thought about renting 2 round tables that would fit in our dining room, however, again I would be dividing our guests.
Then, I remembered we have another table in our downstairs gameroom, which has two leaves to extend to about the same size as my dining room table. We did some quick measuring and decided that with the two tables side by side, we could seat five guests on each of the long sides on rented Chiavarri chairs and we could seat two guests on our own dining room chairs at the head and foot of the table. Of course, I do have an extensive tablecloth wardrobe, but I wanted to join all of our guests together with one beautiful tablecloth.
I immediately contacted Mona Steck of Settings by Mona, who has made fabulous custom tablecloths for many of my customers. However, my party was set for Saturday, December 19, less than two weeks away and it was December. To my great pleasure, Mona said it would be done! I chose the Fay tablecloth, to be made with white linen and gold dupioni trim with matching napkins. It arrived on Wednesday, December 16 - plenty of time to set the table. The size was perfect, the color perfect and the table looked perfect.
