Some interesting facts about India:

The Indus River civilization flourished over 5,000 years ago.
Existing at the same time as the ancient Egypt and Sumer, the civilization outlasted both by over 1,000 years.  It's 1 million kilometer area was centered near the cities of Mohenjodaro and Harappa, now in Pakistan. 

Today, India has the second largest population in the world, over 1.8 billion people.  (China is first.) It is the world's most populated democracy. 

The Indian subcontinent is bordered by the Himalayan Mountains to the north, the Bay of Bengal to the East, the Indian Ocean to the south and the Arabian Sea to the west.  

Indians share happiness and sorrow with their communities.  A festival or celebration is rarely constrained to a home or family...the whole neighborhood is involved. 

A well-balanced Indian meal contains all six tastes, sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitter and astringent.

There are 18 officially recognized Indian languages.

India's national sport is field hockey

The Taj Mahal, located in Agra is often listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was built by Mughal Emporer Shah Jahan between 1631 and 1653.  It was built in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtez Mahal.  She died giving birth to their 14th child
 
Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus originated in India.

Until 1896, India was the only source of diamonds in the world.

The world's first university was established in Takshila in 700 BC.   More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied more than 60 subjects.
