In Ancient Egypt, around 3,000 BC,  everyone , man or woman, wore some type of  jewelry ~ necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings.  For the commoners, it was made from copper or faience.  Of course, for the Pharaohs and the rich, magnificent jewelry was made from gold or silver and inlaid with semi-precious stones.  Around the world, in every culture, jewelry has been used as adornment whether to ward off evil spirits, for good health or just because it is beautiful and makes us feel good!
