For years, Alexandre Turpault was one of the major figures in the luxury market. He won prizes at the Universal Expositions in Paris in 1878 and 1889, and at the beginning od the 1930s he adorned the tables of the celebrated liner, Normandie, with magnificent damask tablecloths.

Bolstered by his skill and his success, he diversified his activities which until now had been devoted to handkerchiefs (including the famous Cholet handkerchief) and to tea towels, to include bed linen and table linen.
